About Sophie
I am a current graduate student at the University of Colorado Boulder, pursuing a Master of Data Science along with a Graduate Certificate in Engineering Management. I have several years of teaching and tutoring experience, including three years as a STEM tutor working with high school students. I have also worked as a Lead Teacher in an early childhood learning center, where I was responsible for lesson planning, tracking student progress, and supporting individual learning goals. I bring a structured, patient, and professional approach to tutoring and tailor my instruction to each student's needs.

I provide homework help, exam preparation, and concept review. For middle school, high school, and college-level students, I work directly from their class materials (homework assignments, study guides, practice tests, notes, etc.), allowing instruction to align closely with what the student is currently learning. For younger students, I also offer general math skill-building and foundational support. I support all mathematics courses from elementary through high school, and tutor college-level mathematics up to Calculus I. My teaching approach is diagnostic and student-led. I begin by asking students to attempt a problem on their own to identify strengths, gaps, and thought processes. From there, I guide them step by step, asking questions such as “What do you think comes next?” or “Why did we do that step?” to encourage active thinking and comprehension rather than memorization. I often ask students to explain steps out loud or demonstrate them independently, reinforcing recall and understanding. Concepts are explained from multiple perspectives to match different learning styles. We then work through practice problems together, with the student gradually taking more of the lead as confidence and mastery grow.
