About Aakarsh
When I was in college over ten years ago, I studied both philosophy and mathematics. Tutoring calculus students in the Math Center was the beginning of my journey as a mathematics teacher. Since then, I have taught in gifted student summer programs like The Robinson Center for Young Scholars and attended the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics Education program while continuing to always work privately with students of a wide range of ages and abilities. About five years ago, I completed my masters degree in liberal arts from St. John's College. At St. John's College, we read Western classics in multiple disciplines and discuss them during class in a seminar format that emphasizes inquiry into the text. As part of this program, I studied important primary sources of mathematics and science from ancient Greece all the way up to the twentieth century. This has helped me understand the origin and development of many important mathematical concepts. The teachers at St. John's College are called tutors because they see their role in the classroom as facilitators rather than instructors. My relationships with my tutors was always based on curiosity and dialogue. That is the kind of relationship I would want to have with my students.

I want students to experience the beauty and joy of doing rigorous mathematics for themselves. The problem sets and books that I give students are individualized and designed to help them gradually make their own mathematical discoveries and prove theorems for themselves. Unlike many teachers, I insist that students first master the fundamentals of logic before proceeding to study mathematics in depth. Also, I feel there is great value in having students read primary sources to learn about the concepts of a particular field in mathematics. The quality of books that I use and level of mathematical rigor that my students are exposed to exceeds what I have seen in most schools. If a student is eager to push themselves so that they can reach their full mathematical potential, I look forward to working with them!
