About Catherine
I have recently finished an MSc in Mathematical Physics and hold a first class honours Mathematics degree. I have experience tutoring in a secondary school in preparation for GCSEs and A-levels and running tutorials for first year undergraduates in a university environment.
I held a full-time internship at a local school in the lead up to exam season, working in the mathematics department, teaching small groups and individual students who were struggling with their mathematics knowledge and falling behind in class. I was able to boost their knowledge and confidence with the material so that they were able to keep up in the classroom.

I have had experience in tutoring a range of ages, having worked in both a secondary school and university, but find no matter what level the, most important thing when it comes to doing well in Maths or Physics is identifying the points of confusion early on. Often students do not thoroughly understand an initial concept, which makes it incredibly difficult to learn any subsequent material. In a classroom environment this can be brushed over. My approach is usually to find initial these areas of difficulty and find a new way of explaining the problem - sometimes just putting the solution in new words can help with a students understanding! As someone who always struggled with maths when I started secondary school but went on to do a degree in it, I like to think I can make the subject interesting - or for those who will never find maths interesting, at least a little easier to understand!
