About Virginia
I am currently a student at the University of Minnesota with the goal of obtaining a Master's in Mathematics with Emphasis in Education. I began my career with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University where I graduated with a 3.7 GPA. After graduation, I worked as a structural engineer in both the engineering design and construction industry for approximately ten years. I then made a career change several in order to focus my energy on teaching and mathematics.
I taught middle-school mathematics (6th-8th grade) for two years full-time. Inspired by my experience in the classroom (and online) I decided to return to school to pursue a master's degree. My goal is to inspire students with the real-world applicability of math and engineering!

Greetings scholars! I'm here to help whatever level of interest or comfort level you have with math. As a former engineer, I can tutor any level of mathematics up through Calculus and beyond, AND I can describe just how and why you might want to use math in a crazy engineering project or in your future career. Math is not something dry and useless - it can and SHOULD always feel relevant and FUN!
At our first session together, I will listen to all of your needs and help you set concrete goals for your math success. Whether you want to ace your algebra II final, use math to design a rocket, or create your own video game to improve your mathematical fluency, I can guide you there.
During a typical tutoring session, the practice problems (or games or projects) we work on together will be based on my assessment of your individual strengths and your progress towards your goals. If you have a specific problem related to your current classwork, we will address that as well and I will modify your sessions to tackle those challenges specifically.
The beautiful, intriguing world of mathematics is so much deeper and more exciting than school math would lead you to believe. So, if you're curious to find out how far it can take you, I can't wait to explore it together!
