About Louie

Hi! I am a recent maths graduate from the University of Durham, where I obtained my undergraduate and Master's degree. I am looking to tutor full time this year before my PhD begins in October.
I am a friendly and supportive tutor, keen to share the satisfaction that maths can bring. Although maths is often challenging, I can help you to feel confident going into your classes and exams, by guiding you through tricky questions step by step, making sure you never feel lost or overwhelmed.

About the lesson

I believe that effective tutoring is about building understanding rather than memorisation. I focus on helping students develop intuition, problem-solving skills, and confidence in their own reasoning. My lessons are highly interactive: I ask guiding questions, encourage students to explain their thinking, and use worked examples alongside exercises tailored to their needs. I adapt my style depending on whether a student benefits more from step-by-step explanations, visual aids, or independent practice with feedback. A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, which allows enough time to review prior material, introduce new concepts, and practise with exercises. I have a degree in mathematics from Durham University. Last year, I ran tutorials for first-year students in two key modules so I am used to teaching tricky content. I tutor pupils who are working towards their GCSEs or A-levels. Whether you are preparing for exams, aiming to boost your grades, or just want help on one topic, I tailor each lesson to your individual needs.

My son is in Y11, studying for his GCSEs, and needed help with a number of areas of Maths.
Louie has been tutoring him for a couple of months now and it has made a real difference. He has worked with my son to target the specific areas he was finding difficult, but has also extended his understanding and abilities once he has felt confident of a topic. In addition, after each lesson, Louie has set further questions to make sure that he is retaining and applying the concepts learned.
Louie is very approachable and likeable and has great explanation and clarification skills. I recommend Louie without reservation.
