About Shea
I am a 20-year-old tutor based in the Kansas City area, currently attending school for mathematics and planning to continue into a physics-focused degree. My academic interests span the full range of STEM subjects, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering-related topics. Learning has always been a central part of my life. After completing my mathematics degree, I intend to continue my education as broadly and deeply as possible. My long-term goal is not simply to earn degrees, but to build a strong, well-rounded understanding of STEM and use that knowledge in a meaningful way. For me, that purpose is teaching. I bring both academic focus and genuine enthusiasm into my tutoring. Subjects like astrophysics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and more are not just areas of study for me, but fields I actively enjoy exploring and discussing. This passion helps me explain concepts clearly and keep lessons engaging while maintaining a professional, structured learning environment. I approach tutoring with patience, encouragement, and respect for each student’s individual learning style. My goal is to help students feel confident in their abilities, supported in their learning, and capable of long-term academic success.

Teaching is not just something I do. It’s my long-term goal and the work that gives me real purpose. I believe every student is capable of learning STEM subjects when they are given patience, encouragement, and explanations that actually make sense to them. Everyone learns differently, and my role as a tutor is to meet students where they are and help them build confidence alongside understanding.
I lean a lot on approaches that real teachers swear by: asking questions, checking for understanding early and often, and breaking big ideas into bite-sized pieces. Instead of only lecturing, I think of myself as a coach: I’ll guide you through problems, help you notice patterns, and help you connect new ideas to things you already get. When something doesn’t make sense, we don’t just push through- we back up and try a new explanation, a diagram, an example from real life, or a practical analogy that finally clicks.
What makes me different from someone who just gives answers is that I teach thinking. My goal is to build academic independence: I want you to get to a point where you can tackle new problems on your own. I also make space for mistakes- errors are learning gold, and I bring that mindset into tutoring. I’ll help you learn from what didn’t work, instead of judging it. I’m patient, encouraging, and I adapt constantly- if something isn’t working, we can always change strategy.
My lessons are for learners from elementary through high school who want help in any STEM area: math, science, and related skills. Whether you’re catching up, keeping up, or getting ahead, I design each lesson for your exact needs- your class curriculum, your pace, and your goals.
