About Marcy
I actually hated math growing up. My mom is an engineer and her way of teaching me consisted of a lot of impatient yelling. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom ok? But throughout my academic journey, I was so frustrated that I didn't understand math AND that no one's teaching style worked on me. I tutored a few peers in algebra and geometry and eventually realized I would teach myself. I remember ditching my college entry math class because the professor did not teach. He would solely lecture and a lot of my peers were failing. I decided to rent the college textbook at the library and reserve a study room. I began tutoring sessions for that class and it brought a smile to my face to see those puzzled faces clear up with understanding. I also took a job as a tutor the following year for part B of that math course. Three years later, I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with my BA in Liberal Studies, but am looking to get my Master's in Mathematics to teach at the college level. Right now, I work as a Grade 3 math teacher. I look forward to meeting you, teaching you, and learning from you!

- Tutoring with me is like putting the last puzzle piece that reveals a clear picture: rewarding and enriching.
- First, I would need to know the type of math to better prepare for lesson planning. I tend to first have a warm up for you to complete independently before we go over it together. Then, we begin the lesson by breaking down the skill set needed. There are foundational skills and essential skills that we would review. After the lesson, I'd provide problems to check for understanding.
- What sets me apart as a tutor is my patience and willingness to learn from you as well. By meeting you and accommodating to your learning style, I'm learning to reach different people and hopefully teach them to love math.
- I am comfortable with any math from K-12 as well as college courses.
