I believe in learning through understanding. And understanding comes from relating. If the child can relate to what he's learning, it aids in his interest, and he becomes more receptive to understand the subject matter at hand. I like teaching by sticking to the basics, because there's no problem that can't be solved with breaking down to small basic problems.
