About Luis

I am currently a Master's Electrical Engineer Student at Arizona State University and pursued my Bachelor's degree at California State University Los Angeles. I have about 5+ years of tutoring experience specifically in the mathematics portion, my expertise lies on Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, and Differential Equations. I was first introduced to tutoring during my undergraduate studies. Math was always a strong suite ever since high school so I decided to take the challenge and tutor math for students in the Engineering Department in my school. At first, it was a bit challenging because communication wasn't my strongest skill but throughout the years I was able to improve my communication and teaching skills. It was always a great feeling whenever students came back giving their gratitude because they were able to improve their grade and pass the class. Tutoring is something I enjoy because it refreshes my memory on the math material and I am able to pass down my knowledge on the material for students to help them understand the material.

About the lesson

During my tutoring experience throughout the years, I have always dealt with college students with math courses and some high school students for AP Calculus classes. In order to ensure that students get the most out of my tutoring, I would like to see previous worksheets, homework, and exams that their professors give them. That gives me an idea of what the professor focuses on in their classes whether it is more proof based or more problem solving based. I also give them my own worksheets if they request it to have more problems similar to their homework and for them to get extra practice. If possible I would like the students to focus on their weaknesses but I will also include their strengths to have a better grasp of the material overall. It's good for the students to do it themselves first to visualize what they have problems with and walk them through step-by-step if you see they are giving difficulty. I will do everything I can to help them understand the material and improve their grade overall.
