About Rachel
I have a master's level degree in Psychology that has given me a unique perspective on learning styles, personal strengths and weaknesses, and the need for a tailored approach to the individual.
I have tutored for more than 3 years as well as co-instructed and assisted teaching in college-level courses. My students are encouraged to develop to a skill-level and ability to work through problems on their own where they don't need me anymore, and while it's hard to say good-bye...the ultimate goal is to build student self-sufficiency.

I work to get students to reach an "A-ha!" moment when it comes to mathematical concepts that are challenging for them. I try to work along the specific curriculum set by the student's schoolteacher or prepare for standardized testing like the ACT or SAT.
I initially begin by identifying "sticky spots" in learning, and then set goals for what our work together will focus on. Then I like to develop appropriate systems and processes for the individual to learn and practice both with me and between sessions.
I've been able to raise my student's grades by a minimum of one letter (if not more) after working consistently for 6 weeks. I have training and experience working with students who struggle with learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism.
For younger students, I believe in keeping open communication with parents about progress and needs and in keeping students accountable for what they work on when I'm not there. For older students, I think working through limiting self-beliefs when learning concepts can open a new door for learning independently.
