About Ian
My name is Ian Wooldridge and I have lectured Maths at three colleges over the past 17 years and also taught Chemistry and Maths since 1995 as a teacher and private tutor. I have experience of instilling confidence into students of all ages, which leads to them overcoming previous barriers and achieving qualifications in maths that they never previously thought were possible. I have enabled learners from ages 16 to over 70 to gain up to A star at GCSE Maths and also AS level teaching. I have also helped learners to achieve up to grades A at A level Chemistry. Many have used the skills and techniques that I taught them to go into rewarding professions such as nursing, midwifery, medicine etc. I am willing to go over a concept however basic it is and want the learner to feel relaxed and more confident at the end of every session.

I start lessons by recapping on last lesson and reinforcing concepts previously learnt. I subsequently introduce a new topic, starting by asking what students know already about it and then filling in gaps in knowledge by incorporating a range of teaching techniques i.e. group pair work, quizzes i.e. kahoot etc asking open and closed questions. I relate teaching to the syllabus and past paper questions, remembering to recap at the end of session. My lesson is no longer than an hour before a break happens. structured i.e. 5 mins recap from last session, 5 mins introduction of new topics, 15 mins hands on activity, 10 mins quiz, 15 mins past paper questions and finally 5 mins recap on work learnt during this session. I have a lot of experience of having taught GCSE Maths Higher/Intermediate/Foundation courses and numeracy courses i.e. Access to Health Numeracy. I also have a certificate in teaching adult numeracy, PGCE, 2.1 Degree in Maths and Third Class Honours degree in Chemistry, I have experience of teaching secondary school pupils 11-16 and adults 16+.
