About Peter

I am an astrophysicist in the Oxford area. I recently completed a PhD at Lincoln College, University of Oxford, working on Cosmology and Galaxy Evolution, having previously completed a BA in Mathematics and MSci in Astrophysics at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. I have several years experience tutoring mathematics and sciences, for a broad range of ages and abilities, both for individuals and school groups, both in person and over Skype/Zoom.

Lessons are usually delivered in person, or over Skype/Zoom. If in person, my tutoring is pre-dominantly limited to Oxford and Central London, but Cambridge and Canterbury are also possible. Skype sessions are more flexible, and with some exceptions, I am available any time any day of the week.

I am the author of several peer-reviewed papers and have visited and worked at many Universities around the world, including Caltech in the US, the University of Lyon in France and the University of Western Cape in South Africa.

My background:

I studied for four years at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, graduating in 2013 with a BA in Mathematics, and an MSci in Astrophysics. My Masters project focussed on understanding the radial migration of stars within the Milky Way.

I then started my PhD at Lincoln College, University of Oxford, working using telescopes in Chile and Hawaii to look back to the beginning of the Universe, and understand how galaxies changed over that time, and how we can use them to learn about Cosmology.

In my spare time I enjoy travelling, and have travelled around China, India, Malaysia, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, the USA, Canada, Egypt, South Africa, Russia, Australia, and much of Europe. I also greatly enjoy science fiction, in particular the works of Isaac Asimov and Alastair Reynolds.
