About Oscar

I'm Oscar. I've been giving 1-to-1 Maths grinds since the year of my own Leaving Cert. In that time I've tutored 20+ students, all of which saw significant grade improvement, many of whom achieved the coveted H1 mark.

Engaging students is all about making the subject feel accessible, relevant, and grounded. In that vein, I have streamlined the curriculum, to make complex Mathematical concepts feel intuitive.

I take education seriously, but good education is as fun and engaging as it is challenging. If my students are not excited to learn, then I am not doing my job.

I also have experience teaching overseas in developing nations like Malawi, where I originated a linguistically informed English language course designed for speakers of Bantu languages (Chichewa, Chitonga), around the particular phonetic and syntactic dissimilarities between English and Bantu Languages.

About the lesson

Most people hate maths, and I don't blame them. Somewhere along the way — through absence, an unengaging teacher, ADHD, or something else entirely — the student missed a core concept.

Now, when it's time to solve problems, that fundamental insight just isn't there. This can be extremely frustrating, especially for kids who are otherwise strong academically.

The solution is always the same: Diagnose the specific gap in understanding, then boot-strap intuition by solving progressively more complicated problems.

I offer 60 and 90 minutes long lessons, for Junior and Leaving certificate students respectively. I ask that my students send me some recent work beforehand (mock exams, worksheets, etc.) so we can get straight to the point.
