About Joana

Hi, I’m originally from Germany and work as a software developer, with a background in mechanical engineering. I also lead workshops for both kids and adults on topics such as anti-discrimination and the safe use of AI.

I’m a very open and communicative person who enjoys creating a positive and supportive learning environment. I believe learning works best when students feel comfortable, so I keep my lessons engaging, approachable, and interactive. At the same time, I take my responsibility seriously and always aim to provide structured and reliable support.

Outside of teaching, I’m interested in a wide range of topics. I enjoy sports, cooking, and continuously learning new things, which helps me connect with students and bring real-world examples into our lessons.

About the lesson

My teaching approach focuses on building a deep and lasting understanding of math rather than just solving individual problems. I aim to help students see the bigger picture and understand how concepts connect, so they can apply their knowledge independently.

I also place strong emphasis on creating a relaxed and supportive learning environment. Many students feel stressed or intimidated by math, so I work to reduce that pressure and show them that math can actually be engaging and even enjoyable.

During lessons, I adapt to each student’s pace and needs, using clear explanations and practical examples to make concepts easier to grasp. My goal is not only to improve grades, but to build confidence, curiosity, and long-term problem-solving skills.

Perfect! Joana is by far the best tutor I’ve ever had - and I’ve had a few really good ones. She is an outstanding math tutor who explains complex concepts in a way that actually makes sense, and she easily adapts her teaching style to your level. I saw improvement very quickly - in almost all my tests and grades, but also in my confidence.

Joana is also one of the sweetest, kindest, and funniest people I’ve ever met. I never thought tutoring and learning could feel so safe and be so much fun. She is also extremely patient, reliable, driven, and always well-prepared.

Math has never been my thing but Joana completely changed that for me! She makes it actually fun, which I honestly never thought I'd say about maths.
What I love most is how she explains things. If you don't get it straight away, she tries a completely different approach until it finally clicks. No pressure, no judgment, just patience and creativity.
On top of that she's genuinely funny, which makes the whole thing so much more relaxed. You never feel stressed or embarrassed for not understanding something, you just keep going until it makes sense.
