About Jack
Hi! I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Edinburgh, and I'm passionate about helping younger students get to grips with Maths and Physics — the two subjects that shaped my path into engineering. I use them every day in my degree, so the GCSE fundamentals are fresh in my mind and I genuinely understand why they matter beyond the exam.
I want to tutor because I remember clearly what it felt like to be a GCSE student — sometimes a concept clicked instantly, and sometimes a topic felt impossible until someone explained it the right way. The moment a student goes from frustrated to confident is what I find most rewarding about teaching, and it's something I've experienced informally when helping friends and family with their work.
Outside of my studies, I enjoy golf, F1 and football, and I speak both English and Mandarin fluently. I'm friendly, patient, and approachable, and I want my students to feel like lessons are a safe space where it's okay to be unsure and ask questions.

I offer one-to-one online tutoring in GCSE Maths and Physics, aimed at students working towards their exams who want to build both confidence and understanding. As a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Edinburgh, I use these subjects every day in my degree, so the fundamentals are fresh and I can explain not just how a method works but why it matters.
My approach is to break tricky problems into clear, step-by-step methods that students can apply on their own. I focus on building confidence through small wins, and I treat mistakes as a normal part of learning rather than something to be embarrassed about. If one explanation doesn't land, I'll try a different angle, a diagram, an analogy, or a real-world example from engineering.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, though I'm flexible on length and frequency depending on what works best for the student. I'm happy to focus on exam technique, working through past papers, building up weak topics, or going over homework, whatever the student needs most.
