About Simon
Hi! My name is Simon. I have been a Secondary School teacher for 12 years, and have been a Head of Department in Media & Film Studies for 3 years. I have a distinctive passion for the role that media (and film) plays in everyone's lives and the tools that we can acquire through education to mediate what we consume.
My aim as a tutor is to guide each student, based on their specific strengths and weaknesses in the subject, to maximise their potential with the preparation for exams, and their creative approaches with non-exam assessments.
I have had experience with marking for exam boards, which gives me a greater appreciation of how to access higher bands in a variety of questions based on the theoretical framework (Language/Representation/Industry/Audience).
Whether you are hoping to get a 4/5 at GCSE and a C at A-Level, or a 9 at GCSE and an A* at A Level, I can pitch teaching according to your specific personal goals.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that my tutoring makes a clear impact on the outcomes of a student's learning journey.

Step 2: tutor presentation of key concepts and set texts relevant to exam components.
Step 3: accessible tasks that begin at the 'recall' stage before building up to 'hard thinking' questions with opportunities for extended writing (building an argument and sustaining a line of reasoning) on exam/assessment questions.
Step 4: word banks, glossaries, scaffolds, exemplars, success criteria, exam board rubrics and sentence starter support materials will be available to attempt these.
Step 5: self assessment and teacher assessed opportunities based on tasks.
Step 6: Kahoot! quizzes on set texts for knowledge retention purposes.
