About Penina
Hello! My name is Penina, and I’m currently taking a gap year before entering medical school next year. I began teaching during my undergraduate years and have been tutoring consistently since then. Teaching has become something that I truly love and take great pride in. What I enjoy most is not only helping students grow and become more confident learners, but also learning from my students in the process. I believe education should be accessible and empowering, and I work hard to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and truly understanding the material. My sessions are structured, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s unique learning style. I always aim to make learning engaging, clear, and motivating. Outside of academics, I enjoy baking and ice skating, which I think helps me bring patience, creativity, and balance into my teaching style.

Hi! I’m Penina, and I’m a medical school admit with an undergraduate background in violin performance, chemistry, and chemical biology. My unique academic journey allows me to blend creativity, discipline, and scientific thinking into every lesson I teach. I understand both the technical side of learning and the emotional side of building confidence, especially in challenging STEM subjects and high-stakes exams.
My teaching style is highly personalized and student-focused. I start by understanding how each student learns best, then design lessons that match their pace and goals. I emphasize deep understanding over memorization and teach structured problem-solving strategies that work across subjects, especially for SAT and science-based courses. I also use techniques from my music training such as repetition, pattern recognition, and performance mindset—to help students stay focused and confident.
A typical session includes:
- A short check-in and review of earlier material
- Clear explanation of new or difficult concepts
- Step-by-step guided practice
- Strategy work for timing, accuracy, and test-day mindset
- A concise wrap-up with goals for the next session
What makes my tutoring unique is my combination of elite test-taking experience, strong STEM foundation, and years of hands-on teaching. I achieved a 517 MCAT and a 1460 SAT and have helped students achieve major score improvements, including significant jumps in standardized test performance, with my students scoring 1550+. I bring patience, clarity, and structure to every lesson while keeping students motivated and supported.
