About Luke

I'm a final-year Doctor of Medicine student at the University of Queensland, with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science. I graduated as Dux of my school with an ATAR of 99.7, receiving Highest Achiever awards in Physics, Chemistry, Human Biology, Mathematics Methods, and Mathematics Specialist, so I have a strong personal foundation in every science subject I teach.

My teaching experience goes well beyond private tutoring. I have worked as a casual academic at UQ since 2023, teaching across undergraduate and medical school courses in physiology, anatomy, and biomedical science. My responsibilities have included delivering wet labs, anatomy practicals, dissection sessions, and small group tutorials, and I regularly serve as Head Demonstrator, coordinating tutors and leading sessions independently. In 2024 I received the UQ Emerging Teacher of Excellence Award in recognition of my contribution to student learning and educational leadership.

Prior to university teaching, I worked at a secondary school delivering one-on-one and classroom-based tuition across Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics at Year 11 and 12 level, including relief teaching and exam preparation.

I tutor because I genuinely enjoy helping students build understanding, not just pass exams. Having walked the path from high school science to medicine myself, I know what it takes at every stage, and I bring that perspective to every student I work with.

About the lesson

Sessions are fully one-on-one, tailored to each student's individual needs, goals, and learning style. Lessons run for two hours and are available on weekends at no extra cost, either in person at the State Library of Queensland or via Zoom.

For Year 12 students, the focus is systematic, exam-focused ATAR maximisation working through content gaps, exam technique, and an extensive bank of practice material not freely available elsewhere. For Years 8 to 11, the goal is building students to a Year 12 standard ahead of their peers, so they enter their senior years with a genuine head start.

I also offer unlimited between-session support, so students are never stuck waiting until the next lesson to get a question answered.

Having supported students at high school, undergraduate, and medical school level, including delivering university lectures and leading classroom sessions, I bring an understanding of what long-term academic success actually looks like, and how to build toward it from day one.
