About Andy
JAMES RUSE 2017 GRADUATE | Postgraduate Medical Student MD1
James Ruse is the state's best performing academically selective high school, ranking 1st in the NSW HSC for the 27th consecutive year as of 2022.
I began tutoring immediately after completing my own HSC in 2017. Over the past eight years, I have had the privilege of working with more than 15 students from a diverse range of academic backgrounds, including top-tier selective schools, prestigious private colleges, and local high schools. This experience has given me a unique vantage point: I’ve seen the curriculum evolve, I’ve seen where the common pitfalls lie, and I’ve seen exactly what differentiates a "good" response from a "perfect" one. I don’t view tutoring as a one-way delivery of information. My role is to be a mentor—someone who understands the current pressures of the school system and can provide the relatability of a peer combined with the authority of an expert.
Whether we are working with a Year 5 student aiming for their dream school or a Year 12 student navigating their final trials, my goal is to provide the clarity and strategy needed to score every possible mark.
Recent Experience: I have fresh, first-hand experience with the HSC environment. I don't just teach the subject; I teach the system.
Targeted Feedback: We focus on the specific marking criteria that separate a Band 5 from a Band 6.
Personalised Mentoring: Whether you are in Year 5 or Year 12, I adapt my style to your specific learning needs to ensure you feel confident on exam day.

You come first. That's my philosophy. Tutoring is always about the student. That's why I don't follow a set tutoring structure. I tailor my lessons to suit each student's abilities and ensure their understanding is at 100% before I move on to the next topic. Whether you need a tutor to outperform the cohort, bolster your comprehension of the subject, or to catch up on previous school content you don't fully understand, I can cater to your every need. My students are from a broad spectrum of educational backgrounds, so I have experience in adapting my teaching to their needs to ensure the best outcome.
I will come prepared with my own teaching materials every lesson including textbooks, worksheets, past papers from various schools, such as James Ruse, and homework.
I also offer online support for my students to bolster their learning, meaning they can email or message me any questions related to homework or school work at any time during the week. I am also happy to offer my help and advice for any school projects or assignments they have.

I’ve known Andy for about 4 years now, and honestly, the more time I’ve spent around him, the more impressed I’ve become. He’s one of those rare people who is genuinely intelligent, mature, and dedicated all at once, yet remains super humble. Whenever I’ve been stuck on something, he actually listens, understands the problem, and walks you through it in a way that just makes sense. He has a gift for making things simple to understand and effortless. If you’re looking for a maths tutor who genuinely cares, Andy is without a doubt the rarest find you’ll ever come across!
Andy is a very patient and considerate tutor who supports my work in mathematics during my high school years. I have felt more confident sitting in exams and observed great improvement in my reports for the past 2 terms.
