About Allison
Hi, I'm Allie, a first year medical student at UCL. I am a patient and supportive tutor, and I have experience from volunteering roles like working in a care home and running a science forum, teaching science to a variety of ages. I have developed my communication skills from these roles and I have learned how to adapt my approach in explaining topics towards different students. I can help you strengthen weaker topics, improve your confidence and offer advice on revision techniques. I can also provide interview support for those looking to study medicine at university. My goal is to make tutoring encouraging, and everyone is welcome!! I achieved Grade 9s at GCSE in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English Language, English Literature, Geography, French, Mandarin, and a Grade 8 in Computer Science. I achieved A*s in Biology and Chemistry, and As in Physics and Maths.

I offer around 30-45 minute lessons for GCSE lessons and around 45-60 minute lessons for A-level students, but I am flexible with timings. I encourage students to tell me which topics they want to work on before the lesson, so that I can prepare materials for them. My teaching techniques include showing diagrams to help visual learners, and using past paper questions from their exam boards to help them apply the knowledge that they have. Active recall is important in subjects like Biology where there is a lot of content that needs to be memorised, so this is something I emphasise. I adapt my teaching techniques to suit each student and their needs. I have experience in teaching young students science at GCSE level and A-level. This includes my 2 years of volunteering at a primary school in Oxford, where I taught the students topics that interested them. I also volunteered for over a year in a science club in Oxford, where I created a weekly scientific demonstration for students to get involved in. This taught them some A-level concepts, and there were a range of ages of students. This helped me develop my teaching skills as I adapted my approach towards different abilities, and also my communication and listening skills. I teach anyone looking for support in Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry at GCSE, and Biology and Chemistry at A-level. I am also happy to tutor students looking to study medicine at university, so please don't hesitate to contact me for details!
