About Joseph

Hello, I am Joe and am currently a 1st-year medical student at Flinders University. Prior to this, I studied a Bachelor's of Biomedical Science at the University of Queensland. As I did not obtain a competitive GPA, I subsequently applied to an honors.

During the intensive demands of honors, I learned new analytic and reading skills that I applied to the March GAMSAT, leading me to obtain a score of 75 (67/61/86) despite balancing a part-time job and tutoring on the side at the time.

My first sitting I obtained a 66 (61/66/68) and then sat it again in September and achieved a 71 (71/71/71) before finally getting my 75. How did I do this all the while balancing a job, honors, and my tutoring? By reading through the GAMSAT information booklet and understanding that intrinsically it is not a knowledge exam but a critical thinking exam.

Despite doing minimal study, I managed to obtain my 86 and I am more than happy to reveal how I did it to my prospective students. I cannot promise that I can help you to the same score, but what I can do is provide you with the critical analysis and information interpretation skills that can assist in improving your score. I can give you guidance on how to navigate an exam that has such limited resources by telling you what I did and tailoring our sessions to address your limitations to maximize your score.

I knew that with the difficult and academically rigorous demands of post-graduate medicine, my GPA would limit my ability to succeed in it, hence I turned to the GAMSAT. I understand the disillusionment and discouragement the medical system causes having been rejected by GEMSAS two times in a row. I want to support your journey and give you the tools that GAMSAT does not advertise you need, and tell you how I achieved my 86. I don't believe in high scorers gatekeeping their scores, I want to repay the support I received in my journey forward.

About the lesson

Looking to sit this years March or September GAMSAT? Looking to improve in Section 3 (Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences)? Well, I have seen improvement in myself by 15+ points between sittings without any tutoring.

This improvement in my own scores has assisted me in securing a spot at Flinders University while completing my honours year. I have tutored high school students for over 2 years which has honed my skills in communicating difficult concepts to a wider audience. My classes for GAMSAT focus on Sections 1 and 3 where I teach the skills required for these sections rather than memorising scientific theory or reading passages of text. My lessons will focus on fostering the thinking skills required for these sections and developing a process that works for you to succeed.

In addition to GAMSAT tutoring I can assist students in interview training particularly panel interviews which I have previously sat for Flinders. I was originally waitlisted for Flinders University, for what I believe to be a suboptimal GPA (5.5) but I believe that my high interview score (96%) and my strong GAMSAT score (75) allowed me clear the waitlist!
