About Joshua

With a Master's degree in Chemistry from Imperial College London (First class) and an MD from the University of Cambridge, I have extensive knowledge in the field. In fact, after scoring in the 97th percentile on the UCAT exam, he was invited by the exam organizers, Pearson, to contribute to UCAT study guides.

Throughout my career, I have mentored dozens of students at leading schools in London and Cambridge. He has also developed and taught successful 12-week medicine application courses and a condensed two-day course at Mander Portman Woodward.

I am dedicated to helping aspiring doctors achieve their dreams. That's why I founded newingtontutors.co.uk in 2021, with the goal of offering even more comprehensive support and guidance to students. I offer seminars, tutoring, resources for the UCAT exams, personal statements, and interviews to give students confidence and support every step of the way to medicine.

About the lesson

Whether you have an MMI interview or a panel interview, The Masterclass offers complete preparation for all the most common interview questions. This interactive, engaging and stimulating course is designed to push you to be the best applicant you can possibly be. I believe in encouraging students to think like medical students, not just memorise and repeat what interviewers have heard hundreds of times already.

I graduated from the University of Cambridge medical school and I have been running this course at top schools across the country.

Here are some of the topics covered in this course:

Sell yourself in the interview
The central question in any medicine interview is 'Why you?', being able to give a unique answer to that question that shows you have the right qualities requires demonstrating insight into your values, motivations, and formative experiences. We will work with you to develop your story and teach you the right way to show off your strengths and skills.

Explain your desire to study medicine
'Why medicine?' is both the simplest and the hardest question in the medicine interview. It is essential to show you understand the responsibilities and privileges of practicing medicine. Getting an offer depends on avoiding cliches and red-flag answers while making sure you tick all the boxes the medical school is looking for.

Situational Judgement
Medicine interviews are virtually guaranteed to challenge you with situational judgment questions. These are hypothetical situations where you are expected to explain what you would do. A good answer will consider NHS values, the role you are playing, and triage the most urgent considerations. The Masterclass teaches you how to approach any situation and improves your confidence with insightful worked examples.

Medical Ethics
