About Timothy

I'm a practicing artist and MFA graduate specializing in photography, fiber, drawing/painting, and time-based media. My work as both an artist and educator has given me experience helping students develop technical skills, creative confidence, and a deeper understanding of art history and contemporary practice. Whether you're a beginner or an aspiring professional artist, lessons are tailored to your goals and interests.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching art is centered on helping students develop both technical skills and a strong personal creative voice. I tailor lessons to each student's goals, interests, and experience level. Whether a student is learning foundational drawing skills, preparing a portfolio, developing a contemporary art practice, or exploring new media, I strive to create an encouraging environment that balances structure, experimentation, and critical thinking.

Lessons typically begin with a discussion of the student's current projects, goals, or challenges. From there, we may work through demonstrations, guided exercises, critiques, technical instruction, or discussions of historical and contemporary artists. I place a strong emphasis on developing visual literacy, problem-solving skills, and confidence alongside technical proficiency.

What sets me apart is my experience as both a practicing artist and educator. I hold an MFA in Art and Design with a concentration in Time-Based Art and have worked in museum education, developing workshops and educational programming for diverse audiences. This background allows me to support students not only in making artwork, but also in understanding contemporary art, preparing portfolios, writing artist statements, and developing a sustainable creative practice.

Lessons are available for students of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced artists. I work with middle school, high school, undergraduate, and adult learners, including those preparing college applications, developing professional portfolios, or seeking guidance in contemporary art, drawing, painting, sound, video, and other interdisciplinary practices.
