About Karen
I've always loved teaching, and loved being a 7th/8th grade math classroom teacher, but as a classroom teacher I wasn't able to help those students who were behind and struggling/frustrated as much as I wanted to. I started tutoring for extra income, and found I really liked having the freedom to be creative, and a knack for helping students working below grade level. It was a reason got out of the classroom and became a math specialist, in that role I worked with grades K-7. Because I have worked with many grades, I am familiar with the standards and important skills learned in each grade. This gives me more insight to what prior skills a student might need to work on, and may be causing them to struggle in their current class.

I have been working with grades K-2 lately and having a lot of fun coming up with activities that keep my students attention, and they are enjoying learning math. Depending on the grade I try to use games, activities and manipulatives when possible, visual representations are usually helpful for upper elementary (grades 4-6).
