About Michael
I trained at some of the best universities in the world: I hold a Bachelor of Science in Physics from MIT, PhD from Berkeley. I taught physics and computing at a Russell Group university, where I tutored students and recruited prospective students. I now work in industry as a software developer, so I know the skills needed to succeed in both academic and professional settings

I am passionate about learning and want to help my pupils not only master their subjects of study, but also develop the skills to be lifelong learners and imminently capable workers. I was a lecturer of astrophysics at a Russell Group university, where I earned a student-chosen award for “Most Engaging Lecturer”. I now work hands-on in the technology industry as a software developer, giving me intimate knowledge of the key transferable skills students should target and how those skills are applied in the working world. I think deeply not only about what we learn, but how we learn it and crucially *why* we learn it.
My teaching and tutoring experience covers a range of topics and age levels. I have taught physics and computing at university level. I have also taught and tutored physics, maths, and computing at secondary school level. I am familiar with GCSE and A-level curriculum for those subjects, and I have a drive to help students prepare to maximise their results for these sat exams.
I believe the key to academic success is to discover your optimum learning style and adapt lessons to match the approach that works best for you. While the traditional education system typically caters to only a limited variety of learning styles, I endeavour to make learning accessible to everyone. I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds, including home-educated children and children with SEN (specifically ADHD and ASD).
I offer 1-hour tutoring sessions which can be any combination of problem solving and conceptual review, including working through past papers for sat exams or working through coursework. I offer a free starter session for new pupils where we talk through your background and goals, and try to get a taste for your best learning style.
