About Erik
I am a PhD researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an experienced architecture studio instructor with more than a decade of teaching and professional practice across architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, and design.
I work with students at every stage—from curious beginners and high school students exploring architecture for the first time to undergraduate design studios, graduate researchers, and professionals developing new skills.
Whether you need help with a studio project, architectural history, design thinking, research, academic writing, or a college application essay, my goal is the same: to help you think more clearly, communicate more effectively, and become a more confident designer and writer.
Architecture is ultimately about understanding people, places, and ideas. I believe those skills can be learned, and I enjoy helping students discover the creativity and critical thinking they already possess.

Every lesson is tailored to your goals. Some students come with a studio project that needs another set of experienced eyes; others want to build drawing and design skills, prepare a portfolio, understand architectural history, strengthen an academic paper, or receive detailed feedback on a college application essay.
Rather than relying on lectures alone, I teach through discussion, critique, and problem-solving. Together we'll identify what is working, where you are getting stuck, and develop practical strategies to move your work forward.
Typical lessons may include:
• Design critiques for architecture or landscape architecture studios
• Portfolio review and presentation advice
• Architectural history and theory tutoring
• Academic writing, research papers, and essay development
• College admissions essays and application support
• Drawing, representation, precedent analysis, and design process
My teaching combines professional practice with graduate-level research, helping students develop not only stronger projects but stronger ways of thinking. Whether you're preparing for architecture school, succeeding in studio, writing an important paper, or exploring the built environment out of personal interest, lessons are adapted to your experience and objectives.
