About Alexia

Teaching piano is a rewarding process where I emphasize the harmony between disciplined technique and creative expression, tailoring every lesson to the individual student’s interests, strengths, and goals. I begin by focusing on foundational skills such as hand position, finger independence, and rhythmic accuracy, ensuring that students develop a solid technical base that supports healthy, sustainable playing. However, I also place great importance on making music come alive—exploring dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and emotional storytelling within the pieces they play. I encourage students to discover their own musical voice through improvisation and composition exercises, which deepen their understanding of theory while fostering creativity. My approach adapts fluidly to different learning styles, whether the student is a child just starting out, an adult rekindling their passion, or an advanced player pursuing performance or academic goals. I integrate technology by recording lessons, using backing tracks, and employing digital tools for ear training and theory practice to keep students engaged and informed about their progress. A memorable success was helping a shy teenager overcome performance anxiety and prepare for a recital where they played with confidence and musicality. I work with students across many genres—classical, jazz, pop, and beyond—always ensuring that repertoire choices reflect their personal tastes and aspirations. Building effective, enjoyable practice habits is a constant focus, helping students maintain motivation and achieve consistent growth. Ultimately, I strive to create a nurturing environment where students feel supported to develop not only as pianists but as expressive artists who connect deeply with their music.

I weave music theory and ear training into lessons to deepen understanding and empower students to engage with music intellectually and emotionally. I place strong emphasis on creativity, encouraging students to improvise and compose as a means of self-expression and artistic growth.

I incorporate technology, including recording devices and practice apps, to enhance lessons and provide objective feedback that supports effective practice. My teaching environment is warm, supportive, and encouraging, where students feel free to take risks, learn from mistakes, and celebrate their progress. Whether preparing for exams, concerts, or playing simply for personal enjoyment, my aim is to inspire confident, expressive pianists who cultivate a lifelong passion for music and self-expression.
