About Hugo
I have spent six years teaching programming and data science to more than 200 students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. My career began in academic research where I used computational methods to analyze large biological datasets before transitioning to industry data science and then to education. I hold a master's degree in computer science with specialization in machine learning and maintain active consulting relationships with data-driven companies. My students include university students completing dissertations professionals seeking career transitions and entrepreneurs needing analytical skills for their ventures. I am particularly skilled at teaching students with limited programming backgrounds how to think computationally and derive insights from data. I maintain a repository of curated datasets tutorials and project templates that students use to build impressive portfolios. Outside of teaching I contribute to data science open-source projects write technical blog posts and participate in machine learning competitions. I believe that data literacy is one of the most valuable skills in the modern economy and I am committed to making data science education accessible practical and career-relevant.

My programming teaching focuses on the data-driven side of software development preparing students for careers in data science analytics and artificial intelligence. I teach Python as the primary language for data work covering libraries such as Pandas NumPy Matplotlib and Scikit-learn with depth and practical application. Every lesson involves working with real datasets from finance healthcare social media and science so students learn to handle messy realistic data rather than clean textbook examples. I teach the full data science pipeline from data collection and cleaning through exploratory analysis visualization modeling and communication of results. Machine learning is introduced through intuitive explanations of algorithms followed by hands-on implementation and evaluation. Statistical thinking is integrated throughout teaching students to design experiments test hypotheses and avoid common pitfalls like overfitting and selection bias. I emphasize reproducible research practices including version control documentation and the use of Jupyter notebooks. For students preparing for data science careers I offer guidance on portfolio development technical interviewing and the communication of technical results to non-technical audiences. My sessions are project-based and highly practical.
