About Ben
Hey, I'm Ben, a 21-year-old engineering student and Launceston local. After two years of studying a Bachelor of Engineering at Monash University, I’ve returned home to Tasmania for a gap year before completing my degree.
Graduating in 2022 from St Patrick’s College, I was ranked within the top 100 students by ATAR statewide and achieved perfect scores in my favorite subjects: Specialist Mathematics level 4 and Physics level 4. I’ve maintained that performance at Monash, achieving multiple High Distinctions in Advanced Engineering Mathematics and various Physics-based units.
I’m passionate about these subjects and love helping students move past rote memorization to find a deeper, intuitive understanding of how things work. My goal is to help students build the confidence they need to succeed in their final years of schooling and beyond.
When I’m not at the desk, I’m an outdoorsy person who loves playing and coaching hockey. I also enjoy honing my skills on the piano and spending quality time with my family and friends.

Structure & Personalization
I primarily offer 60-minute or 90-minute 1-on-1 sessions. Because every student’s learning style is different, I tailor each lesson to their specific needs. Our first session is a "diagnostic"—we'll spend time identifying gaps in knowledge and figuring out exactly how I can best support the student's goals. After that, each lesson will be spent working on whatever the student is struggling with or preparing for the next topic to give them a head start.
The "Exam Performance" Edge
Knowing the content is only half the battle. To succeed in subjects like TASC Specialist Math or Physics, you need to master the exam itself. Having recently achieved top marks in both College and Monash Engineering, I focus heavily on:
Pattern Recognition: Identifying exactly what a question is asking for before you start writing.
Time Management: Strategies for tackling "High-Mark" questions without getting stuck.
Efficiency & Notation: Avoiding the "silly mistakes" that cost students their top-tier grades.
Reducing Stress & Anxiety
I understand the pressure of the final years of school because I was there myself very recently. I teach the mental "tricks" I used to stay calm and focused during big exams. My goal is to turn "test anxiety" into confidence by ensuring the student feels 100% prepared for any question the paper throws at them.
