About Dr Smriti

Hi! I'm a mathematics teacher with an MSc and PhD from IIT Madras, and I've spent the last 10 years teaching at the university level.

My relationship with mathematics hasn't always been about solving difficult problems or doing research. What drew me to the subject was the satisfaction of understanding something that once seemed confusing. I still remember the joy of those "aha!" moments, and that's one of the reasons I love teaching today.

Over the years, I've met many students who believed they were "not good at math." More often than not, they simply needed someone to explain things differently and patiently. Seeing a student go from feeling stuck and frustrated to feeling confident and independent is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge because mathematics has given me so much—not just academically, but also in the way I think and solve problems. Teaching allows me to pass on that understanding and help others discover that mathematics can actually make sense and even be enjoyable.

In my classes, you'll find a supportive environment where questions are always welcome. My goal is not just to help you get the right answer, but to help you understand the ideas behind it so that you can tackle new problems with confidence.

About the lesson

Many students come to mathematics believing that it is difficult, intimidating, or only meant for a few gifted people. In my experience, that is rarely true. Most students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they have never been taught in a way that helps them truly understand the subject.

I am an MSc and PhD in Mathematics from IIT Madras, and for the past 10 years I have been teaching mathematics at the university level. Throughout my teaching journey, I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and have learned that every student learns differently. That is why I do not follow a one-size-fits-all approach.

In my classes, I focus on helping students understand the "why" behind every concept rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures. I encourage questions, discussions, and critical thinking. My goal is to make mathematics feel logical and intuitive, so that students develop confidence in solving problems on their own.

Whether you are preparing for examinations, pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies, or simply trying to strengthen your mathematical foundation, I will work with you at your pace and according to your goals. My classes are interactive, supportive, and designed to help you build both understanding and confidence.
