About Erika

Hello!

I studied economics for 6 years. First at A Level, where I was the first student at my school to achieve an A* in Economics. I found the topic challenging at first - I had recently moved countries so wasn't used to learning in English, and struggled with key economic concepts. It's a challenging subject at first, and definitely one of the most difficult post-16 subjects for a student to choose! But, I persevered and ended up loving economics. I realised how valuable further education in the subject is, so went on to study Economics at undergraduate level, and then a postgraduate masters in Economics for International Development at the University of Oxford.

I am now a professional economist so have plenty of experience in applying economic concepts to real world issues. I was an Economic Advisor in the UK Civil Service for 4 years, where I worked on a range of national economic policies (the most recent role I had was working on the UK's levelling up agenda), and was a trained assessor for the Economic Assessment Centre (part of the Fast Stream interview process). I really enjoyed being an assessor and it has given me some great experience in helping others to communicate economic concepts effectively, both written and verbally.

I recently changed jobs, and now work as a consultant for an international development firm, focusing on both macro- and micro-economic challenges facing lower- and middle-income countries.

If you told 16 year old me, who had just started studying economics that I would end up pursuing (and loving) a career in it, I wouldn't believe you. But you can apply economics to so many industries and get some fascinating roles. I want to help students overcome the initial struggles with the subjects concepts, and provide my support to ensure you get the top marks in your exams. Often concepts are much simpler as they appear - especially with some extra support and real life topics to apply them to.

Alongside work, I like spending time with friends and family, exercising, going on van-trips (currently renovating a Van with my partner!) and travelling to new places. I am friendly and personable and want to help students gain confidence in economics.

About the lesson

I want to help A Level and undergraduate students understand complex economic topics and it’s real life applications, achieve the top grades and get a passion for economics. I cover the most relevant subjects to best suit the students needs.
