About Shannon
Hello! I graduated with a BSc Honours in Physics from McGill in 2020, and completed my Masters in Theoretical Physics at UBC's Quantum Matter Institute in 2022.
Having started my education in McGill’s Neuroscience program, I am well-equipped to teach Life Sciences as well as Physics, Chemistry, Math, and Computer Science. I have a strong background in writing and am happy to help students with lab reports or university and job applications.
My professional experience includes tutoring private clients from Grades 10-12, working as a teaching assistant at UBC for 1st year-4th year courses, and teaching a class of 25 students at a fast-growing education tech startup called Synthesis School ((concealed information) I particularly enjoy working with young women and nonbinary students to build their confidence and encourage them to pursue their interests in STEM!

As a theoretical physicist, I work to understand problems from the most basic principles. As a tutor, I use this background to help my students: 1. develop skills for problem solving, 2. build mental models that help them deeply understand the material, and 3. grow their self-confidence.
My lessons are discussion-based, with a heavy focus on practice problems. I also love connecting with students on a personal level so that I can tailor my lessons to their hobbies and interests, and understand what motivates them.
By working with me, the student will learn general methods for approaching problems so that they can become an independent learner. I know my job is done when the student no longer feels the need for a tutor!

If travel is required, I ask for travel time to be reimbursed at 50% of the agreed-upon hourly rate.
You may cancel a lesson at no charge up to the day before the lesson. A same-day cancellation incurs a 50% charge. A no-show is billed at the full rate.
