About Holly
I have lived in NYC, what I consider the art center of the world, for over 30 years. I moved to NYC in 1984, and immersed myself in galleries, museums, bookstores—it was the heyday of the LES do-it-yourself art galleries, Mary Boone, Basquiat, Warhol, Jeff Koons, Mark Tansey, Alex Katz—my loves were also painters like de Kooning, Pollock, Charles Burchfield... Rockwell, Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell—my knowledge of art was grown in the fertile soil of the amazing bookstores in NYC at the time.
You could not ask for a better art tutor.

My lessons focus on the optical nature of art, looking through the lens of art history. Based on the interests of my students, I tailor a disciplined but freewheeling approach to art instruction, with more of a conversational tone, and an interactive art experience for the student.
We'll talk about in-depth art history ideas and events, and either focus on one main type of art, like "painting" or "drawing" or "graphic design" for the student, or learn a full vocabulary of art media. My full and wide appreciation for art and all media is conveyed through my lessons. I am PASSIONATE about art and the real values in it. I teach the art of "seeing," and not just about art, but with life.
I am a super and facile draftsman, and painter in oils and gouache and watercolor, I have worked with metals and beads and leather—I create.
