About Jay
My name is Jay Viola, I am a 24-year-old composer and producer based in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. I released my first song in 2024 and since its release, it has risen to nearly 17k listens. I have produced dozens of songs over multiple genres and have composed multiple orchestral arrangements, however, throughout it all, my drive for teaching and producing educational content has been cultivated and grown. I now tutor instruments such as bass guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, and even vocals. These are a few of the classes I provide for student beginners at Marcellin College. However, I have now decided to split off from the school and provide my own personal tutoring so that I may also teach Music Theory, Jazz Theory, and Music Production.

As a music tutor working with high school-aged beginner musicians, I take a structured yet flexible approach to teaching. I focus on blending hands-on instrument practice with foundational music theory to help students develop both technical skills and musical understanding. My lessons typically run for 45 minutes to an hour, allowing enough time to cover key concepts while keeping students engaged and focused. I use a range of teaching techniques including demonstration, guided practice, ear training, and rhythm exercises to cater to different learning styles. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, five years of music theory training and nearly a decade of musical experience, I bring both academic and practical knowledge to my sessions. Currently, I tutor instruments at Marcellin College and so most lessons are structured for helping beginner musicians build confidence and grow on their musical journey.
