About Nina
I am a professional musician, songwriter, Primary teacher and mother. Living in Waihi near the beach, bush and beautiful rivers, I write songs when I'm inspired to. I love children, education, holistic health and combine the two when I can. I'm a passionate vocal and guitar tutor who believes that every student learns in their own unique way. My teaching style is empathetic, intuitive, and focused on building confidence through positive, personalised learning experiences. I place strong emphasis on ear training and musical expression, helping students not just play or sing notes — but feel the music. You will also be singing intervals and scales during warm up but believe me, these are valuable exercises and essential in achieving the best outcome!
With a background in leading group music sessions for children, groups of adults and with growing up in a musical family, I bring a nurturing and creative energy to every lesson. I use both piano and guitar during lessons. And will work with you on your song and artist choices and help scaffold the lessons to get you there. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to deepen your skills, I’ll support you in finding your own voice and musical flow.

My lessons are half an hour in duration. On a weekly basis for best results. Sorry, I can't change the settings to show this!
We start with fun exercises to see where you are at. We discuss songs and artists you like and what you would like to ge tout of lessons with me, and we go from there. I blend a mix of theory and practice along with embodied practice to bring out results and the natural ability from within you - not imposed upon from the outside. I am there to support and to scaffold your natural ability. My job is to bring out what is hidden within - I am not judging or rating anyone so please do relax!
* I'm no longer taking new students for Term 1 2026 and existing lessons are online in the evenings only as I am busy with a teaching practicum every day. Term 2 - We will resume in person lessons. Thank you!
