About James
Having spent the majority of my life engaged in music in one form or another, I have a wealth of experience that spans across composing and performing in a variety of styles. Originally training as a classical composer, I moved into the sphere of music technology and have relished both the challenges and flexibility that music making in this field offers.
As a composer and performer of electronic music, I have performed at festivals internationally, including: Slingshot Athens (USA), Longyou Caves (China), SPECTRUM (Malaysia), and Electric Nights (Greece).

Lessons are 1 hour in duration, though longer lesson times can be accommodated where suited.
Lessons are flexible and tailored to each individual's needs and goals. My professional experience allows me to teach audio production (recording, editing, mixing and mastering), sound design and composition.
I graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a BMus (Hons) in Composition, and went on to receive an MMus in Composition and PhD from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
I have 20 years' experience of private one-to-one music teaching, teaching all ages and abilities. For the past 15 years I have taught music in higher education in the UK at The Open University and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where I currently hold lectureships.
Professionally, I have worked with a wide range of musicians across a wide range of styles, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra and The Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as being active as a composer and performer of electronic music.
