About REN
Hello, I’m Keyi, a university piano lecturer, professional collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and classically trained singer from China. I hold a master’s degree in piano performance and am currently completing my PhD in Music.
For more than ten years, I have worked closely with singers and pianists through university teaching, concerts, masterclasses, competitions, and opera projects.
My particular area of interest is Chinese vocal repertoire. As a native Mandarin speaker with experience as both a pianist and singer, I understand the complete journey from studying the words and score to performing confidently on stage. I help students discover the meaning, poetry, cultural background, and emotional world behind each song—not simply pronounce the words correctly.
I am patient, attentive, and committed to creating a professional yet encouraging learning environment. Whether you are learning your first Chinese song or preparing for an audition, recital, competition, or professional performance, I will meet you at your current level and help you develop with clarity, confidence, and genuine musical expression.

My teaching is practical, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s musical background, level, and personal goals. I combine vocal coaching, piano accompaniment, guided listening, demonstration, and detailed text analysis. When working on Chinese repertoire, we focus not only on accurate Mandarin pronunciation, but also on how the language shapes rhythm, phrasing, tone, and emotional expression.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student’s goals and reviewing the music and lyrics. We then work step by step on pronunciation and diction, rhythm and melody, breath and phrasing, and musical interpretation. The lesson concludes with an accompanied run-through and a clear practice plan. When helpful, I also provide phonetic notes and pronunciation guidance for independent practice.
What sets me apart is my combined experience as a university piano lecturer, collaborative pianist, vocal coach, classically trained singer, and native Mandarin speaker. I understand the music from both the singer’s and pianist’s perspectives, and I help students connect language, poetry, musical style, and performance.
My lessons are suitable for enthusiastic beginners, music students, conservatory applicants, professional singers, and anyone who wants to sing Chinese songs with greater accuracy, confidence, expression, and authenticity.
