About Megan

Miss Megan attended Rider University's School of Fine and Performing Arts within Westminster College of the Arts for two years. She studied musical theatre and took music theory classes, acting classes, dance classes, voice lessons, piano lessons, and took place in music theatre studio classes in which she was critiqued for performances as well as helped critique others' performances.

She left Rider to take care of her health, but she is now enrolled in Berklee Online College of Music studying General Music Studies, a major that includes classes in music theory and composition. She has been teaching voice for four years, starting at Rising Stars Voice Studio and then continuing on to her own music and theatre nonprofit studio, Top Cat Stage Productions. She has directed over 20 short plays, including some concerts, as a part of her nonprofit program and has taught over 60 children, some acting and some voice and music theory.

Miss Megan has a passion and a love of music and theatre and she enjoys helping others discover their passions as well.

About the lesson

Reading music and learning music theory is essential to anyone who aspires to be any sort of musician. It is critical for instrumentalists or singers to learn about the mechanics behind music notation and theory, but it can also be helpful to those who are just looking to broaden their horizons and exercise their brain. Learning music theory as a child is good for brain development and can help make them better learners in all subjects.

Miss Megan has taught voice lessons for the past four years, and has been introducing her students to music theory since she began. Many students who used to be just singers are now musicians who have insight and understanding of the music they are singing.

Miss Megan's teaching style is to work with each individual child or person in a way that best helps them understand the language of music. She uses physical elements, mental and memory tricks, two-way discussions and conversations, and teaches both on paper and at the piano.

Miss Megan understands the importance of teaching the fundamentals and basics of music before moving on the more complicated areas. She believes in learning the basics thoroughly so that when a student moves on to a more advanced topic, they will be 100% prepared.

Basic principles that Miss Megan teaches include notes on a staff and piano, rhythm, key signatures, chords, dynamic markings, tonic sol fa, and sight singing. Miss Megan concentrates on all of those subjects when teaching music theory, and also teaches voice in which she touches on those subjects as well. (Voice lesson price differs from tutoring price of $30/hour.)

Voice lessons are focused on vocal technique, acting within a song, interpreting lyrics, performing onstage, and more.

All lessons are intended to be not only educational, but FUN!

All of Miss Megan's voice students are active members of the theatre community. Miss Megan specializes in teaching children but also teaches adults.
