About Patrick
Patrick Dugan is part teacher, part musical guide, part studio monk with a guitar. He teaches guitar, bass, ukulele, and voice across pop, rock, jazz, blues, funk, bluegrass, reggae, and heavy metal—because soul and awesomeness show up in many styles. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music and has been teaching and performing professionally since before 2006. His training spans music theory, recording, production, songwriting, artist development, live performance, and music technology, all wrapped in a thoughtful down-to-earth way of teaching that aims to keep creativity, inspiration, and motivation alive and well. Patrick’s high student retention comes from a rare mix of deep knowledge and real-world wisdom mixed with rare intuition. He welcomes students of every age and background and builds lessons around who they are and who they want to become while meeting them where they're at. Every session is tailored to the student’s unique voice, strengths, direction, and level of commitment. Many of his students have gone on to pursue successful music careers. Others just want to play with confidence. Patrick believes both are sacred. His goal isn’t perfection—it’s expression, confidence, excellence, and a lifelong relationship with music that one can be proud of.

Patrick is a great teacher and has helped me to come a long way in guitar in a short amount of time!
I was nervous to study guitar as an adult because I knew I wanted to improve but didn’t have a clear vision on how to do so. Patrick sat down and helped me set clear goals and work towards them in a non stressful, fun way. If you don’t understand something he quickly finds new ways to explain it or a different approach and is very patient and also very knowledgeable. He leaves space for questions and fun tangents, but also keeps the lesson focused and engaging.
He’s a very flexible teacher too schedule wise and has a good teaching style of challenging you and meeting you right where you’re at. I previously could just play chords but have moved on to basic improvising , jazz standards, some pop stuff that I requested to learn as well as a lot of general music theory I didn’t know.
Highly recommend Patrick!!!Patrick is a great teacher l, I would absolutely recommend him!
I started with Patrick about 6 months ago and we have weekly sessions. In that time I feel like a made major progressions in playing, with big differences even noticeable on a weekly basis due to the tips he provides that changes your thinking about how to play certain chords. His teaching method is based on a chord book he developed which incorporates increasing difficulty of chords and strumming patterns as you proceed, as well as teaching based on indiv song preferences; so, you are learning to play by practicing the songs you love! Even if a chord sheet for a specific song is not available, Patrick goes out of his way to make it himself! He is easygoing, takes his time to explain things properly and no request is to little! If you want to learn how to play guitar he is absolutely the person to go with!View more recommendations
