Music theory, composition, harmony, and song writing, BM and MM in composition

John and I were classmates at Rowan University, where we quickly became very good friends. I was impressed with John’s extensive knowledge of theoretical concepts, the musical canon, and overall musicianship.

I would always seek him out if I was struggling with a concept (or just wanted a deeper understanding) and he would effortlessly and clearly articulate the information. John is a very thorough and practical teacher, always trying to get to the root of something rather than using overwhelming jargon or unnecessary filler. Most importantly, his passion and love for teaching always comes through, and has greatly encouraged me and added to my passion for music.

John and I have been friends since college. He is a diligent and thorough instructor in music theory, composition, and piano. To this day, there is no one else I’ll consult for a second opinion on my compositions or a thorny technical issue with my piano playing. He has a clear and concise method for problem solving, and a very engaging teaching style. I’ve also been present for his lessons with other students, and he has a gift for meeting students wherever they are at in their musical journey. You won’t find a better instructor in New Jersey.

John is very knowledgeable, articulate, and skilled. His approach to teaching cultivates an ideal environment for learning and you will indeed learn! He takes the time to make sure he meets you where you’re at and guarantees steady progression. Highly recommend his lessons!
