In high school, I taught lessons to a wide range of ages. My youngest students typically required a more creative/loose approach to maintain their interest. As they improved their basic concept of rhythm and timing, I slowly eased them into proper technique and music theory. I usually skip this first step with older students. However, all students should be given the opportunity to be creative and enjoy music--that's what it's for! While I do place emphasis on proper technique, I always make sure that the student is having a good time.
I am a college student who has recently graduated from the McCallum Fine Arts Academy. I majored in music, where I had key leadership roles within the percussion section. I have competed at state competitions each year in high school, and have received many exceptional ratings and an Outstanding Soloist Award (specifically on the marimba). Aside from the marimba, I began playing the drum kit/traditional snare at the age of 6, and have continued since. I also have experience with Samba and other Latin percussion instruments, as well as vocal and piano experience.
I included a YouTube video of me playing the Timpani along with other auxiliary instruments! :)
