About Ethan
I'm a mandolin player based in Uptown, Chicago, with over 15 years experience playing everything from jazz to klezmer to Irish to bluegrass to folk. I've played and performed in R&B bands, mandolin orchestras, folk groups and am currently in a klezmer band called Upshtat Zingerai.
I'm also an experienced songwriter and facilitator of communal singing. For me, music is one of the great joys of life and supporting students start to take ownership over their instruments is an extremely beautiful thing.

I'm a mandolin player with 15 years of experience playing jazz, klezmer, bluegrass, folk, Irish music, blues, and more. I also play and can teach beginner guitar, piano, saxophone, and clarinet.
For me, lessons are all about what the student wants to learn!
Do you want to pick up chords? Try out picking a few tunes? Learn or improve on your improvisation skills?
My style is not just to master specific songs but to explore how music works, including music theory and ear training, so students will be able to truly engage with their instrument as creatively, flexibly, and expressively as possible.
