About Abi
I am a Natural Scientist Student at the University of Cambridge, with a background in private French tutoring. I have taught both a small group of 7-11 year olds (in French) for a year starting in 2019, and have also recently started 1:1 French tuition, beginning in June 2020; I plan to keep this up! At GCSE, I achieved 8 grade 9s (maths, triple science, english lit and lang, french, history) and 1 grade 8 in Art. After this, I was awarded 3 A*s in A-level Biology, Chemistry and Maths, in which the rigorous problem-solving features of these subjects I found completely fascinating ,and satisfying, especially when reaching the right answer after working through the problem. At my Sixth Form, I held the position of a maths mentor for younger years at my school in year 12; I’m a great listener and want to help you think through problems without having to give out the answers straight away.

My teaching method is based primarily on problem-based learning and thinking-based learning. I find that building up increasing complexity gradually in a lesson, at first to ‘warm up’ the brain until we’re ready to tackle more challenging questions will really get your brain used to a certain topic, and build up your knowledge and understanding as we go. In addition to this, I like to focus on contextualising and applying information, in order to prepare your brain to exam scenarios that you’ll be faced with later down the line! It’s important to do this, since in the classroom, I found that the textbook questions were much too different to the exam questions you’re given; knowing when to apply the right set of skills can be daunting, but we’ll work on this together if you need it!
