About Kate

I'm a qualified art teacher and practising artist, with a passion for painting people and telling stories through portraiture. My work is grounded in intersectional feminism and explores the spaces women occupy—visually and socially. I use painting, drawing, photography, and audio to highlight individual identities, often incorporating elements like patterns, jewellery, and tattoos to reflect the personal histories of the people I paint. As both a teacher and artist, I believe in giving people space and voice—whether that’s on the canvas or in the classroom. I’ve worked on collaborative projects like SURGE III and Women of the NHS, and I draw inspiration from artists such as Alice Neel, Jordan Casteel, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. These influences, along with my academic background and lived experiences, shape how I create and how I teach. I aim to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all my students—whether you're preparing for exams or simply want to explore your creativity. I offer structured, supportive guidance while encouraging individual expression and experimentation with materials.

About the lesson

I am a qualified and experienced art teacher with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Distinction from the University of Buckingham. Since graduating in 2017, I’ve taught in a wide range of educational settings, including mainstream secondary schools, pupil referral units, SEND schools, and care homes. This breadth of experience has shaped a flexible, inclusive, and student-centred approach to teaching. My tutoring sessions are designed to support each learner’s unique needs and goals. Whether you're a GCSE or A-Level student needing coursework support, a beginner looking to build technical confidence, or a more advanced learner wishing to develop personal style and expression, I tailor each session to you. I offer guided one-to-one lessons in painting and drawing techniques, including portraiture—my specialism. I begin by discussing your interests and assessing your current skills, then structure lessons to help you develop in the areas most important to you. My teaching combines technical instruction, creative exploration, and constructive feedback, helping you grow artistically and think more critically about your work. Sessions typically last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the individual’s needs and preferences. Lessons can be held in my studio in King's Lynn or, if more convenient, I can travel to you. Qualifications/experience as a tutor: PGCE with Distinction – University of Buckingham BA Fine Art Painting, First Class Honours – University of Brighton Over seven years of teaching experience across KS3, KS4, and KS5 Specialist in inclusive education with experience in SEND, PRUs, and mainstream schools Practising artist with commissioned work across schools, prisons, and galleries I have also designed and delivered bespoke workshops, mentored sixth form students on their EPQs, and helped develop inclusive, diverse art curricula. My own professional art practice, which includes mural commissions and exhibitions, continues to inform my teaching. I offer lessons for learners of all ages and abilities, from young students working towards GCSEs to adults pursuing personal development or creative exploration. Whether you're seeking structured academic support or simply want to deepen your artistic skills in a supportive environment, I’ll work with you to build a programme that inspires and challenges you.
