About Shirley

I’ve been a lawyer in France for the past 6 years, heading my own firm. I practiced civil law, family law, and injury law. Lawyers in France study for eight years and write extensively, which is why I have a perfect mastery of French grammar and spelling. In addition to my legal practice, I taught and trained students for their college exams and the bar exam. I have been teaching/tutoring students for 6 years. Being a teacher for students struggling in their studies was a revelation to me. I’ve never felt more useful than when a student told me they had passed their exam. Additionally, as a lawyer practicing family law, I developed a strong sense of empathy. I am very patient and a good listener. When I moved to NYC in the summer of 2023, I already knew that I wanted to continue teaching and make it my primary occupation. Being a mom for three years has also sparked in me the desire to teach young children. I am currently in training to obtain the diploma of French teacher (DAEFLE).

About the lesson

I believe in creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment where students feel motivated and enthusiastic about learning French. Here are the key components of my approach: Customized Lessons: I tailor each lesson to match the student's interests and learning objectives. By incorporating topics they are passionate about, I ensure the learning process is both enjoyable and effective. Interactive Learning: I use a variety of interactive techniques, including conversational practice, multimedia resources (such as music, movies, and cuisine), and real-life scenarios to enhance language acquisition and cultural understanding. Progressive Skill Development: My lessons are designed to develop all four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—progressively. I provide regular feedback and assessments to monitor progress and adjust the learning plan as needed. Cultural Immersion: Understanding French culture is an integral part of language learning. I introduce students to French customs, traditions, and everyday life through various cultural activities and discussions. Supportive Learning Environment: I create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. My goal is to build their confidence and foster a lifelong love for the French language. Flexible Scheduling: I offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate the busy lives of my students, ensuring they can consistently attend and benefit from their lessons.
