About Henry

Hello everyone,

I'm delighted to be here with you all. My name is Zihao Song,you can also call me Henry and I come from Shanghai, China. As a native Chinese speaker, I'm excited to share a bit about myself with all of you.

I graduated from York University with a major in Healthcare.

During my time in Canada, I had the opportunity to participate in various cultural exchange programs, which provided me with a deeper understanding of the diversity between countries and cultures.

In my free time, I enjoy reading classical literature, particularly ancient Chinese poetry. I also have a passion for traveling and exploring the customs and landscapes of different places. One of my favorite destinations is Tibet, where the natural beauty and rich culture left a profound impression on me.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and sharing the joy of language and culture. If you have any questions about China or the Chinese language, please feel free to ask me anytime. Thank you!

About the lesson

The overall objective is to help learners develop basic proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Cultural understanding will also be integrated into the curriculum.

Week 1-2: Introduction to Mandarin Chinese
Goals:
Understand the importance of tones in Mandarin.
Learn basic greetings and self-introduction.
Familiarize with Pinyin (phonetic system for Mandarin).

Week 3-4: Daily Life Vocabulary
Goals:
Build vocabulary related to daily activities, food, and common objects.
Develop basic conversational skills.

Week 5-6: Numbers and Shopping
Goals:
Learn numbers and basic counting.
Practice shopping dialogues.

Week 7-8: Family and Relationships
Goals:
Describe family members and relationships.
Engage in conversations about family life.

Week 9-10: Directions and Transportation
Goals:
Learn to ask for and give directions.
Discuss transportation options.

Week 11-12: Hobbies and Leisure
Goals:
Discuss hobbies and leisure activities.
Form complex sentences.
