About Ammar

I am Ammar, a native Arabic speaker originally from Iraq. However, throughout my life I have lived in and travelled to many different countries around the Middle East including Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait and Turkey. I have a background in journalism so I have a lot to offer to students who are interested in current affairs in the Middle East. I have over two years' teaching experience in a college in Damascus where I taught students from Indonesia, China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Thailand, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Nigeria, amongst others. I am therefore experienced in teaching students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

About the lesson

For children and young adults, we will mainly focus on audio-visual material to learn key vocabulary and basic grammatical concepts. For adults and advanced Arabic speakers, we will focus more on reading and writing and understanding the finer points of grammar. We will use articles and stories as springboards for practising conversational Arabic. I taught Arabic in a college in Syria to international students from around the world and from neighbouring Arabic countries. I also have a background in broadcast journalism in Arabic-speaking media in the UK, Iraq and Kuwait.
