About Arline

I have a great deal of experience teaching and tutoring Spanish and ESL. Prior to retiring, I was an assistant principal so I know the ins and outs of how teachers think and what they value in their students. I have always received very positive ratings from my administrators. I treat teaching as a calling because it is. It is a discipline that I take most seriously.

About the lesson

My two favorite subjects to tutor are English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish as a new language. I have taught both on the middle and high school levels, from beginners through advanced learners. (I am NY state certified in both.) I have also taught adults in night school.
If students enjoy the atmosphere created and the personality of the teacher, that is half the formula for success. I make learning relevant, fun and rewarding by using my knowledge of educational psychology, enthusiasm, learning games and current-day methodology to teach vocabulary, conjugations, grammar and idioms.
A typical lesson begins with a brief written or oral review of the previous lesson. Based on that, I can review the material or start with a new subject which I explain for a few minutes. Then, I ask the student to reiterate what I've just taught in his/her own words. Then we do questions/answer practice, fill-ins, mini-essays or true/false exercises. This allows me to gauge understanding and correct any misconceptions.
I truly believe that learning should be enjoyable, stress free and productive. Under these conditions, learning a language will come easily to those who want to succeed.

The first hour of tutoring will only cost $25 to allow the student to see if we are compatible.
