About Lisa
My name is Lisa and I live and work in Cape Town, South Africa.
I fell in love with teaching English after volunteering at a primary (junior) school for 5 years, where I taught children who struggled to understand and produce the language. When South Africa went into lockdown during the Covid pandemic, I homeschooled my Grade 6 daughter in all her subjects until such time as she could return to school. Her examination results exceeded the school's expectations. These experiences inspired me to formalise my English teaching skills by doing an online Level 5 Diploma with The TEFL Academy, UK.
The course covered all aspects of teaching English as a foreign or second language, including
Lesson Planning
Language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing
Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
I also attended a 10 hour practice teaching webinar hosted by The TEFL Academy, where I practiced and consolidated my online teaching skills.

Each of my lessons is tailored to meet specific needs as I adjust my teaching methods to suit the age and language level of my students.
Before the first formal lesson, I will do a needs analysis to establish the desired outcomes.
Each lesson is 60 minutes and is taught in 3 parts, viz.
1. Warmer: an inroduction to what will be done in the lesson
2. Body: this is where I will present the language concept, we will practice it together and lastly, the student will produce the language
3. Cooler: the final stage of the lesson where we consolidate the learning by talking through what was covered. Here we will also set homework tasks or tasks for the next lesson.
