About Mina

I started being a French assistant in September last year and will be doing it for this year as well. At school, I mostly focus on speaking and oral understanding as well as pronunciation for students between year 10 and year 13. The students learn how to be more confident in speaking a foreign language as well as being autonomous, both in French and in how to learn it with the right methods and tools. Last year, most of my students passed their French GCSE and A-Level with a A or B grade with a majority having between 35 and 40 out of 40 in speaking.

I also held one-to-one lessons (French and English) for people of all age and levels (between 12 and 29 years old) which allow the youngest ones to start the new year with more confidence and a better understanding of a foreign language or, for the others to pass their TOEIC in English or move to France.

About the lesson

I am a 22-year-old native French student and have been a French assistant for the past year in a prestigious secondary school. I have given lessons to any level and age, I can easily adapt so anyone could have lessons with me.

During the first (free) lesson I try to understand the student's level as well as his or her expectations and desires for the French lessons so that they will be as useful as possible. The first step is to focus on grammar as it is primordial to learn, speak and understand a foreign language so that is what the first lessons will mostly be about through explanations and a lot of exercises.

Then, the lessons will focus on the different areas of learning a language: speaking, writing and understanding. All of these areas will be tackled through exercises and conversation classes as well as games. Depending on the student and his/her level, we can also work on pronunciation and accent reduction with short exercices.

If the student is learning French in school, I am also able to help with homeworks and we can come back to the school lessons together to make sure that everything is understood and spend more time on topics which appear more difficult.

Overall, what is primordial is not to recreate a school lesson but rather a particular moment when the student feels like he can ask anything and take time to learn. It is important for the student to have a new, different approach of French that will not only be in learning and testing but to understand how this can be helpful in their everyday life.
